Filled with antiques and glimpses of days gone by ...and is filled with glimpses of the past! The old cabin features logs cut from the family sawmill that once stood on the farm and will accommodate 2 guests and invites its visitors to enjoy a step back in time amid the antiques and period furnishings. This is a one of a kind old cabin with craftsmanship reflected in the handmade pine plank doors, rolled window glass, stone fireplace and much more. Old quilts, burlap curtains and accessories will carry you back in time to make your stay one of the most memorable experiences ever! Sip wine under the stars, watch deer graze in the pastures, or just sit back & relax! The historic farmhouse is located just 5 minutes off I-77 & very close to Princeton. Why stay overnight in a hotel when this beautiful place is just a short drive away? Things on the farm remain pretty much the way they were when great grandma lived there in the early 1900's. Guests today have a few more modern conveniences including wifi, landline, tv, and . . . a bathroom, replacing the old outhouse that once stood on the farm.

Your bedroom comes complete with natural air conditioning, made possible by raising the old rolled glass windows and propping them up with a stick (of course we have window air conditioners!) The freshness of the cool mountain air filling the room brings with it the night sounds of owls and crickets chirping softly in the stillness. Of course, we do have window air conditioning units as well if you prefer!

If a rain should be falling on the old tin roof, you're in for a special treat. There's nothing like listening to the soothing raindrops as you curl up with a good book or nap the entire afternoon..

Guests can go for a walk to the old barn, go fishing in the river, watch deer graze in the pastures, or make conversation around the crackling firepit while roasting marshmallows and taking in the beauty of a clear, starlit night.

Time stands still at this old farm, rusted glimpses of days gone by, inviting guests to visit and remember when life was simpler. Paradise awaits!

rock climbing

Within the 63,000 acres of New River Gorge National River are over 1,400 established rock climbs. "The New" has become one of the most popular climbing areas in the country. The cliffs at New River Gorge are made up of a very hard sandstone, and range from 30 to 120 feet in height. The rock is very featured, and an abundance of crack and face routes are available. Most of the routes in the gorge favor the advanced and expert climber. The majority of routes are 5.9 and harder, and most sport routes fall in the 5.10 - 5.12 range. A guidebook is an essential tool for locating climbs, and local climbing shops can offer information and specific recommendations.

river  rafting

It's one of the most popular trips for a reason: there simply isn't a better way to beat the heat than to climb into a raft and take off down a cool mountain river!

The Lower New River trip's intensity depends on the season, with this classic run hitting its stride around mid-June. You'll find big water in summer and fall with intermittent long, calm pools for swimming and floating. Fall brings explosive color to the New River Gorge, and Bridge Day adds one more odd element: base jumpers flipping into the blue sky above as you float under the 876' tall New River Gorge Bridge.

HIKING AND TRAILS

There are hundreds of trails that are maintained for your exploration by the National Park Service and/or state park rangers. There are awesome trails at Pipestem State Park, Camp Creek State Forest, Bluestone State Park, the New River Gorge National River and many other trails! Hike year-round!

Exhibition Coal Mine

At the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine, visitors ride through the dark passages of a vintage coal mine. The guides are veteran miners and provide firsthand accounts of the daily responsibilities and travail of past and present day miners.

Guests board a comfortable coal mine “man trip” that holds approximately 35 people for the duration of the whole tour. As the trip begins, guides give general information about the Mine and the history of coal mining in our region. The Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine is a “drift mine” and the track goes 1500 feet up and around various mined out areas. Stops are made at these areas and the veteran guides give in-depth information on the mining methods and equipment seen. The underground tour last approximately 35 minutes. Visitors are asked to bring a jacket because the temperature is always 58 degrees inside the Mine.

Caves & Caverns

Descend 120 feet below the Earth's surface into a vast wonderland of stalactites and stalagmites. Lost World Caverns, discovered in 1942, is a truly magical place for both young and old. It takes approximately 45 minutes to walk through. Self-guided tours allow you to take your time to explore the cavern at your own pace. Just remember to stay on the trail. A guide sheet is provided to tell you about the many different formations that make up this 1/2 mile loop. No matter what the temperature on the outside, the cave always remains a constant 52 degrees. A light jacket and good shoes are recommended.

Hatfields & McCoys ATV Trail

The Hatfield-McCoy Trail System gets its name from the region in southern West Virginia where much of the world famous Hatfield-McCoy Feuding took place and where several of the Hatfield-McCoy Trails are now located. The Buffalo Mountain, Bearwallow, and Rockhouse Trail Systems are located on or near historical sites such as Blair Mountain, Matewan, and the Hatfield Cemetary where battles, feuding, and funerals once took place. This area of the Appalachian Mountains have always been known for its rugged, mountainous terrain, rich natural resources, and its people who have endured here through the decades of our countries existance and continue to call this area home. When you come to ride at Hatfield-McCoy Trails you will experience some of the best ATV, UTV, and dirtbike trail riding in the world as well as some of the most wonderful hospitality you'll find anywhere! Come and see why some people call it West Virginia "Almost Heaven" and why our trail riders call it "Trails Heaven".
